2012 Fall Volunteer Training
Registration for the fall session of Rockbridge Area Hospice’s Volunteer Training has begun. Two levels of training are being offered:
New Volunteer Orientation will take place on Tuesday, October 9th from 10am-1pm. This orientation is required for all who wish to volunteer in any capacity with Rockbridge Area Hospice. Volunteers with this level of training help with administrative tasks, fundraising events, and other special projects.
New Patient Care Volunteer Training will take place on October 11th, 16th, 18th and 23rd, 10am-Noon (plus some independent internet based training to be done in your own home or at the RAH office). This training is required for all who wish to work directly with hospice patients such as providing companionship, giving relief to caregivers, etc.
Volunteer Coordinator Tony Nix commented that “We are in need of both types of volunteers. Our front desk position has several openings; duties include answering phones, taking messages, greeting visitors. And of course we always need new patient care volunteers as well. We use these volunteers to give primary caregivers a break. Volunteers visit patients and read stories, watch tv, talk, etc. If anyone is concerned about being a hospice volunteer I encourage you to give me a call and we can discuss needs that would fill your talents and comfort range.”
Volunteers are vital to the success of the organization and the mission of providing supportive care to the patient and their families.
Training will be held at the Rockbridge Area Hospice office at 315 Myers Street in Lexington. Call 463-1848 or e-mail Tony Nix, Volunteer Coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org for details or to register.
