Hospice care is appropriate for those persons who have a life-limiting illness with an approximate life expectancy of six months or less. Patients and families agree to accept treatments that focus on symptom management rather than cure. All patients remain under the care of an attending physician (their own personal physician or if they do not have one, the hospice medical director) who gives consent to hospice services.
Anyone can call Rockbridge Area Hospice. The patient, patient’s physician, family member or friend may initiate hospice services by calling our office. Once a referral has been made, a visit will be scheduled to meet the patient and family and answer questions and upon admission, assess their needs and develop a plan to meet those needs.
